APSA Olympics and UCR’s Culture Night!
VSA had itself a very busy Saturday! First off, we got up bright and early join the rest of APSA at the first annual APSA Olympics. The other clubs participating were VAC, CA, Tomo, Thai Club, Go and Chess Club, and APSA. Things kicked off with a few icebreaker games and everyone broke off into their own respective clubs.
The first event was the Three-legged Race. Up to represent VSA were Mytchell and Will. Unfortunately, Mytchell took a spill and that ended up ripping Will’s shoes. Thanks for the sacrifice Will!
The second event was Field Pong— a large-scale version of beer pong using buckets and tennis balls instead of cups and ping pong balls. The sexy and skillful David played for VSA while the pretty and powerful Julie played as an APSA constituent. VSA played with CA, VAC, and Tomo against APSA, Thai club, and Go and Chess club. The game was off to a rocky start but the latter team ended up pushing forward to victory.
Up next was my favorite event— LUNCH! All-you-can-eat rice, salad, and Korean BBQ for just $3. Ain’t that a great deal for a meal?! This also gave us some time to mingle with the other clubs and also examine the booth set up by the event’s sponsor, the 2010 Census: Everybody Counts.
With our fuel tanks refilled, it was time for the final event: DODGEBALL! VSA shared the court with CA and balls were flying with such fury! Players were switching in and out so rapidly, I couldn’t keep track of them. Unfortunately, VSA came up short this round, but some of our members helped out in filling up VAC’s team and together we dodged our way to victory!
Not a bad way to spend a Saturday, wouldn’t you say?
But our day doesn’t end there! No sir, just a few hours later, we made our way to UCR to watch their culture night. After the fun road trip up to Riverside, we had some time to spare and decided to stop off at Santana’s, a quaint Mexican restaurant with unbelievable carne asada fries. And of course, the best thing complement a delicious dinner is a spectacular show. UCR’s culture night featured a daunting portrait of a young man’s identity crisis.
After the show the gang went down to a trendy little spot called Life Cafe. The only thing more chill than the taste and atmosphere of the restaurant are the prices. Talk about a meal at a steal!
Great weekend overall and plenty more great ones to come!
